Tracking a year of Chaos, one model at a time.
Welcome to The Long War Ledger, a hobby blog dedicated to my one year, one army project — and for this first year, I’ve thrown my lot in with the Chaos Space Marines.
This blog will track my progress as I build, paint, and (eventually) wage war with my chosen force. Expect regular updates covering hobby progress, lessons learned, and the inevitable highs and lows that come with committing to Chaos.
Why Chaos Space Marines?
Chaos has always appealed to me — the depth of the lore, the variety of warbands, and the sheer character packed into every spiked pauldron. I have the beginnings of an Emperors Children army in HH, I loved the villains in Blackstone Fortress and I have build numerous dream lists on New Recruit for my dream CSM force. This year is the year… This project is about slowing down, focusing on one force, and doing it justice over the course of a year rather than bouncing endlessly between half-finished ideas as I normally do.
Every model will be logged. Every unit will earn its place. This is a ledger, after all.

Beyond the Long War
While Chaos Space Marines are the core focus, this won’t exist in a vacuum. I do have other armies and side projects, and I’d like to share those in the future as and when they fit.
In the near term, I’ll also be taking part in a Warhammer 40,000 league with my Blood Angels, and I’ll be posting updates, thoughts, and reflections from those games as the league progresses. I am hoping that as 11th edition comes storming round the corner, my corrupted host will be ready to answer the call.
On top of that, there may be regular 40k battle reports and hobby updates from club nights, giving a broader look at games played, lists tested, and lessons learned across the table.
What to Expect
- Chaos Space Marine hobby progress
- A year-long, one-army focus
- League updates with Blood Angels
- Casual game reflections from club nights
- Occasional diversions into other projects
If any of that sounds like your kind of heresy, you’re in the right place.
The Long War begins now.
